Both Yi Jianlian and Joshua Powell had a double-double to lead the defending champion Guangdong Hongyuan to a 104-89 home victory over Shanghai Sharks in Game 2 of the first round of Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league playoffs on Friday.
Joshua Powell had 29 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists, Yi Jianlian finished with 26 points and 11 boards, and Royal Ivey and Liu Xiaoyu scored 11 points and 10 points respectively for Guangdong.
Quincy Douby led the Sharks with 25 points, while Darnell Jackson had 19 points and 13 rebounds, and veteran guard Liu Wei contributed 12 points, 6 boards, 4 assists and 4 steals. Cai Liang and Zen Wending combined with 21 points.
Guangdong now lead 2-0 in the best-of-five series after Friday's match.
Thanks to Randolph Morris' 41 points and seven boards, the Beijing Ducks routed Zhejiang Guangsha 121-104 at home to tie 1-1 in the best-of-five series.
Former NBA player Stephon Marbury scored 20 points, Sun Yue had 13 points, 6 assists and 6 boards and Ji Zhe and Zhu Zhexi added 12 points and 10 points respectively for Beijing.
Zhejiang's Jonathan Gibson scored 36 points, Chris Johnson committed 21 points and 15 rebounds and Wang Zheng had 13 points and 14 boards.
In Thursday's other two matches, Dongguan Marco Polo tied the series at 1-1 with a 129-94 home victory over Tianjin Ronggang.
Xinjiang Guanghui also tied with Liaoning Hengye 1-1 after a controversial victory at home. Liaoning's coach and players were furious at a decision of referee Qiu Jun in the last moment, and refused to show up at the post-game press conference. Guo Shiqiang even announced to resign as Liaoning head coach as a protest for the "unfair" treatment.
The Chinese Basketball Association ruled on Friday that Qiu Jun would be suspended for 15 rounds for "some wrong decisions" in the match.
