About 200 jogging fans from all over China ran a semi-naked 3.5 kilometers in smog-plagued Beijing on Sunday. |
Wearing only underwear or fancy dress at around one degree Celsius, the runners ran around the Olympic Green to promote a healthy and low-carbon lifestyle and wish away the city's horrid air pollution.
This was the third session of the race, said one of the event's initiators nicknamed "Capitan," who attracted great attention by wearing a military helmet and a gas mask during the run.
An 8-month pregnant woman also joined the event wearing a vest and shorts; she completed the race in 20 minutes. "Keeping up with exercise is good for my health and will help me during the delivery," she said.
Beijing has seen severe air pollution since Thursday. The density of PM2.5, a major contributor to the smog, climbed up on Sunday night and remained at high levels.
Severe smog is forecast to hover over the city for another three days starting Monday.
