Xinjiang wipe out 13-point deficit to beat Dongguan in Game 1 of CBA semifinals. |
With nine tenths of a second to go, Lester Hudson decided to end the game in regular time, before he hit a 3-pointer in front of Gu Quan.
Hudson's decisive shot behind the arc gave visitors Xinjiang Guanghui a 108-107 win over Dongguan Marco Polo, who led as many as 20 points early in the opening period, in Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league semifinals to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series on Wednesday.
Four Xinjiang players hit double figures, led by James Singleton's 27 points, who also grabbed 12 boards. Hudson finished with 23 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Xinjiang came in scoreless in the first three minutes, and the hosts stormed to a 14-0 run. Xinjiang got their first point on Su Wei's free-throw.
Dongguan extended the margin to 20 points thanks to Zhang Kai and Li Muhao's consecutive shot in the paint field. Yang Jingmin's 3-pointer opened the visitors' attack, who cut the deficit to 10 points as the first quarter ran out.
Xinjiang players continued their momentum to come back, and tied the score at 50 two minutes into the third quarter. Then Singleton made a jumper to give Xinjiang their first lead since the tip-off, and they built a six-point lead into the last 12 minutes.
Two teams traded the advantage, before Bobby Brown's two free throws gave the hosts a 107-105 lead. However, Hudson upset home fans with that 0.9-second shot from downtown.
Bobby Brown contributed a game-high 35 points for Dongguan. Teammates Zhang Kai and Donte Greene had 21 and 20 respectively.
