Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali handed in his resignation on Monday, following a poor start into the Formula One season.

"Ferrari notes the resignation of Stefano Domenicali and thanks him for having served the company ... for 23 years," read a company statement.

The principal of Ferrari F1 team since 2008 has been under pressure since drivers Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen failed to produce a top three finish in the opening three races.

Domenicali, who replaced Frenchman Jean Todt as team principal on January 1, 2008, only managed a constructors' title the same year during his reign.
