Lewis Hamilton held off Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg over the dying stages of the Spanish Grand Prix to win his fourth successive race.

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton won on Sunday the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Catalunya after a competitive race in which he won over Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg.

Hamilton, who took pole position, led the race from start to finish but had to fight Rosberg as both of them had a huge advantage over the rest. Hamilton finally won, completing the race in 1:41.05, 0.6 of a second ahead of Rosberg.

This was Hamilton's fourth victory in a row and now he has 100 points to Rosberg's 97 leading the standings for the first time since 2012.

Rosberg was followed by Daniel Ricciardo and Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel who were third and fourth respectively. Spanish Fernando Alonso, who had won last year, was sixth.

Hamilton, who took his first win at the Circuit de Catalunya, said after finishing the race he "was not fast enough", adding that "Nico was quicker. I had to rely on my engineers to tell me where I could find time and what the good was."

Meanwhile, Rosberg said that "one more lap and I would have been close enough to give it a good go." He stated that "I am a bit gutted, but still second place and in a good position in the championship. There are many races to go."

Ricciardo said that "it is really nice to be on the podium and I am sure I will get to keep it this time" and added that "a lonely third was not a bad result in the end."
