Italy coach Cesare Prandelli announces contract extension through 2016.

Cesare Prandelli confirmed on Monday that he has re-signed the contract with Italy Football Association (FIGC) which will keeps him as the head coach of the Italy national team until June 2016.

FIGC and Prandelli had agreed on contract renewal issue two months ago, but did not put pen to paper.

Those two months had been used to formulate the contract and deal with image right issues, said Prandelli.

"The availability of contract renewal has been there for two months. This period was used to formulate the contract," he said.

"The Federation also wanted to involve me with regards to image rights -- the delay in signing has been down to these reasons," he said.

He announced that he will stay until the end of the 2016 European Championship. "Yes, it is official. Until the European Championships," he said.
