Honduras coach Luis Fernando Suarez stepped down Wednesday after the team was eliminated out of the 2014 World Cup.

Honduras fell to Switzerland 3-0 in the last Group E match Wednesday after they suffered a 3-0 defeat by France and a 2-1 loss to Ecuador. France and Switzerland made it to the round of 16 that started on Saturday while Honduras ended their third World Cup finals journey with a bottom finish.

Suarez, coaching Honduras since 2011, said, "I'm sorry I didn't manage more. I'm sad because I had a dream about this World Cup."

The Colombian said his contract with the football federation would expire when the team was eliminated from the World Cup, but he decided after the match to step aside regardless and let someone else take over.
