As the 2015 Cup of African Nations qualifying begins, Nigeria's Super Eagles on Saturday lost 3-2 to Congo at the UJ Esuene Stadium in southern city of Calabar in Cross River State.

The Nigerian side had scored the first goal in the 15th minute when Efe Ambrose nodded in a pullout from Ahmed Musa, but Congo equalized in the 17th minute through Oniangue Chince.

Congo's midfielder, Bifouma Thievy, scored the second goal in the 42nd minute and the third in the 50th minute through a penalty kick.

Gbolahon Salami scored the second goal for Nigeria in the 89th minute.

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi told reporters shortly after the match that the loss to the Congolese national team will serve as a wakeup call to his players.

The result sees Congo occupy second spot in Group A after the opening round of matches, with South Africa on top due to a better goal difference after the Bafana Bafana got a 3-0 win over Sudan on Friday.
