The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) crushed Hong Kong of China 5-0 in women's soccer preliminary round of the Asian Games here on Saturday.

The DPR Koreans, who whitewashed Vietnam 5-0 in their group opener on Tuesday, have secured the top spot of Group C and will meet the second-placed team from Group B in the quarterfinals.

The five goals were scored by Wi Jongsim at the 8th minute, Ri Yegyong at the 57th and 64 minute, Ho Unbyol at the 67th minute, and Ra Unsim at the 83rd minute.

"The Hong Kong team defended very well in the first half, but in the second half we scored. I'm glad that we won," said the DPR Korean head coach Kim Kwang-min.

The ongoing Asiad is the first continental tournament that the DPRK women's team ever participated in 2014. They missed the Asian Cup in May because they were banned from competing in the 2015 World Cup qualifying after five players tested positive for banned drugs in the 2011 World Cup.

Despite the lopsided defeat, Hong Kong's head coach Chan Shuk Chi paid tributes to his players.

"DPR Korea are a strong team so it was very difficult for us, but I'm glad that our players did well. Our team's defense was pretty successful in the first half," said Chan.

A DPR Korea vs China clash looms as the Chinese are likely to finish second in Group B. Japan now leads the group due to the goal difference.

Earlier, both Chinese coach Hao Wei and DPRK coach Kim Kwang-min vowed to win gold in Incheon.
