Garcia stretches to return a shot in the game.

France's Caroline Garica continued her giant-killing run at the 2.4-million-dollar WTA Wuhan Open when she beat fifth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska in the second round on Monday.

Garcia shut the Polish, the 2012 Wimbledon finalist and 2014 Australia Open semifinalist, out of the tournament through a nail-biting three-set epic, in which the Frenchwoman outlasted her big-name opponent in 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7).

On Sunday, seven-time Grand Slam champion Williams also fell victim to Garica in the first round after a three-set thriller.

"Against a player like Radwanska, you always have to be confident in your game and just go for it. Doesn't matter the score," said Garcia.

"They were pretty different games between Venus and Radwanska, but I did the same game for myself and will continue to do like this in the week."

Some other seeded players also suffered first round exit here Monday. Twelfth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia, the Australia Open finalist, retired ahead of the kickoff of the deciding set with the score remaining at 6-4, 3-6 against the American player Madison Keys.

Fourteenth-seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic lost to Sabine Lisicki of Germany 5-7, 6-2, 3-6. Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia eased past 15th-seeded Italian veteran Flavia Pennetta 6-1, 6-4.

Sara Errani of Italy reeled off the last six games of the match against Heather Watson of Britain to advance to the second round of the tournament with a 7-5, 6-4 victory.

"It was a really tough match. It was very hot today and she was playing very well," the Italian said. "Very good forehand, very good serve - it wasn't easy for me, but I'm happy I could win the match."
