China reaps 14 golds at Asian Games

Team China reaped 14 gold medals yesterday, topping the list at the Incheon Asian Games.

In badminton group finals, China beat host nation South Korea 3-0 to claim the gold. Teammates Li Xuerui and Wang Shixian suffered a minor setback initially, but managed to turn the table around.

Wang spoke highly of the South Korean team.

"We prepared really well for the final. South Korea has a strong team and had home advantage. We also prepared for the drift etc. So I am not surprised the opponent gave us so much trouble. Korea has quality players so we have to give 100% if we want to beat them. It was a difficult final, all matches went to the deciding game. We won all the matches because we have an overall strong team."

Over to men's side, China beat Malaysia 3-nothing in the semi-final stage to advance to the finals.China will face South Korea in the final round this afternoon.

In football, the Chinese men's team edged Kazakhstan 1-0, while women's team beat Jordan 5-0 to make the top 8.

Six medals were handed out in swimming. China won two and the rest went to Japan.Chinese swimmer Lu Yin broke the record in the women's 50 metres butterfly stroke with a time of 25.83 seconds.

China also wrapped up the gold and silver medals in women's 100 metres freestyle.

In men's 4x200m freestyle relay, Olympic champion Sun Yang skipped the match due to injury.Japan collected the title with a record-breaking result. China collected silver.

Sun Yang will take part in the men's 400 metres freestyle final, which begins at 7.15 pm Beijing time tonight.
