Three top-rated Chinese women advanced to the French Open badminton quarter-finals on Thursday as the second-seeded Wang Shixian was given a scare en route to the last eight.

Wang, 24, came from one set down to secure a 16-21, 21-15, 21-16 win over Japanese Sayaka Takahashi at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin.

Both her teammates enjoyed easy wins as world No. 1 Li Xuerui beat Japan's top player Minatsu Mitani 21-16, 24-22, while Asian Games winner Wang Yihan won a Chinese derby against Liu Xin in straight sets.

Things didn't go well with the young Chinese men's team,

Wang Zhengming, the fifth seed, is the only Chinese in the quarters, after Chen Yuekun and Tian Houwei crashed out.
