Metta World Peace is the highest-paid import player in CBA.

The Chinese Basketball Association's Sichuan Blue Whales denied waiving Metta World Peace, saying that the former NBA player will stay with the team while nursing his injury.

Rumors have been circulating since yesterday that Sichuan would find a new player from overseas to replace Metta World Peace, who reinjured himself in the last CBA game on Sunday.

The club confirmed the report of the injury yesterday afternoon in an official statement on Sina Weibo but denied waiving the star forward.

According to a senior official from the club, World Peace will stay in Chengdu to nurse his injury and may play again later this season.

"We have decided to find a new overseas player to replace him because he will be out for at least a week, and the team is in a very difficult situation. But we haven't waived him," Sichuan's general manager Geng Jie revealed.

The former New York Knicks and Los Angles Lakers player signed a one-year deal worth $1.43 million, making him the highest-paid import [overseas] player in the CBA. He averaged 19 points and 6 rebounds in his 16 games with the Sichuan Blue Whales.
