China turned out to be the biggest winner at the Asian Athletics Association awards gala on Tuesday, winning four awards including the Best Association of the Year.

The 28-year-old Liu Hong, runner-up of women's 20-kilometer event at the 2014 IAAF Race Walking World Cup in Taicang, China, was named as the best female athlete of Asia in 2014. China's boys' hammer thrower Xu Wenjie and girls' javelin thrower Yu Yuzhen were named best youth athlete of Asia.

Qatar's high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim, who leaped off over 2.40m for four times last season including a world best mark of 2.43m, was named best male athlete of Asia in 2014. The 23-year-old also won the Diamond Race last year and was widely seen as the top favorite for the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing in August.

The 2015 Asain Athletics Championships will be held from June 3-7 in Wuhan with a total of some 900 athletes competing in 42 events.
