Two African competitors set new men's and women's race records at this year's Lanzhou International Marathon, which was held on June 13, 2015, in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu province.

Ethiopia's Ajara Ward Georgios came in first for the men's side, clocking a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes, 10 seconds. Nguriatukei Rael Kiyara of Kenya was the first female across the finish line with a time of 2:31:22. Both competitors broke the marathon's previous records with their respective times.

This year's marathon included the full marathon, the half marathon and the 5-km road race.

Over 40,000 runners from 21 countries and regions--such as China, Hongkong, Ethiopia, Kenya, Canada, France and Germany--have been invited to run along the banks of the Yellow River.

The 2015 Lanzhou International Marathon is the fifth consecutive marathon held in Lanzhou following the one in 2011.

This is the fifth Lanzhou International Marathon; the first was held in 2011.
