The 50th IAAF Congress opened on Tuesday with athletics legends Sergey Bubka and Sebastian Coe to go head-to-head on Wednesday in their bid to become the new head of the world governing body of the sport.

According to the IAAF website, the voting process in the IAAF elections, which will take place on Wednesday, will be electronic and backed up by a manual system.

"This is an important Council meeting for all of us as it comes in the week of our 50th IAAF Congress and heralds the arrival of a new president who has the task to build the future of our sport," said the reigning president Diack during the IAAF Council Meeting on Monday.

"I am all the more confident of what we have in store as neither of the candidates will find themselves in an unfamiliar environment. I have laid the foundations for the future of the IAAF with our two great champions." Diack said. "Whoever the IAAF athletics family elects he will be a bona fide son of our sport."

The 2015 IAAF World Championships will be held from Aug. 22 to 30 in Beijing's landmark National Stadium, known as the "Birds' Nest". It will be the first time for the biyearly tournament to come to China.
