China's reigning world champion Ding Ning made a shock exit from the Swedish Open table tennis tournament on Saturday after losing to compatriot and No. 26 seed Mu Zi in Round of 16 of the women's singles event.

Ding went down in four sets (11-8, 11-7, 14-12, 11-2). As they come from the same national association, the ranking or seeding proves little.

Zhang Jike, also a world champion from China, suffered at the hands of host Sweden's veteran player Jens Lundqvist (11-6, 5-11, 11-9, 11-3, 5-11, 12-10).

Germany's Han Ying, the No.9 seed, overcame 8th seed Chen Meng of China in Round of 16 of the women's singles in four straight games (11-5, 11-9, 11-6, 11-6).

"It's important to have the feeling how to beat a Chinese player, and I made fewer mistakes," said Han.

"I felt very calm and I think for Chen Meng it was quite the opposite, she was tense," she added.
