Zhangjiakou, the 2022 Winter Olympic co-host with Beijing, is soliciting global partners to develop its tourism industry, its vice mayor said on Saturday.

The city, in north China's Hebei Province near Beijing, "is inviting world-class tourism planning institutions and individuals to help map out a plan for tourism growth," said Li Li.

"We hope to brainstorm with our global partners ways to boost tourism, particularly sports-themed tourism, promote coordinated development with Beijing, and take the opportunity of the Winter Games to draw more international tourists," said Li.

The Games is already attracting tourists to Zhangjiakou, a city of about 4.7 million people.

Its Chongli district welcomed over 530,000 visitors during the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday in February, up more than a quarter from the same period of last year.

Beijing and Zhangjiakou won the right to host the Games last year.

"The Games is a great opportunity for the two cities to cooperate and supplement each other in resources and market sharing," said Xu Da, a publicity official for the Beijing Winter Olympics.
