Ten youth football teams from China and seven ASEAN countries gathered in Beijing to compete in the "Soong Ching Ling Cup" China-ASEAN Youth Football Friendly Matches, which started on Saturday at the Beijing Institute of Technology.

Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao declared the tournament open. Seven international teams that represent Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam as well as three from Chinese cities will compete during the five-day tournament.

At the first match, China's Shenzhen beat Myanmar 2-0 in the rain.

The tournament is to add to the series of commemorations to mark the 25th anniversary of China-ASEAN dialogue relationship. It is jointly sponsored by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), the China-ASEAN Center and the Chinese Football Association (CFA).

The SCL-Cup seeks to bring people from China and the ASEAN countries closer via sports activities, and holding a tournament for youth reflected a wish shared by China and ASEAN countries to consolidate friendship among young people from countries along the Belt and Road route.
