Olympic badminton champion Lin Dan apologized to his family on Thursday afternoon after a showbiz blogger exposed photos that purportedly show him having an affair while his wife was pregnant.

"As a man, I won't make an excuse for myself. But my behavior hurt my family, so here I am to apologize to my family, I'm sorry," Lin wrote in a short statement on his microblog account.

The apology came after "Detective Zhao Wu'er" posted several photos of Lin and a mysterious woman on Thursday morning on his microblog, which shocked the public. He wrote that he went to a top restaurant in mid-September and unexpectedly saw Lin Dan with a woman and another man.

The blogger said he saw the woman hold Lin's arm, so he decided to pursue a possible story. After their meal, Lin took the woman back to her home. The two stayed in her house for two hours.

In October, Lin was in Guangdong to participate in a national badminton championship match. The blogger went there as well and soon found Lin flirting with the same woman in a hotel room. Lin then carefully closed the window curtain and engaged in further intimacy with the woman.

This occurred at a time when Lin's wife Xie Xingfang was pregnant. Xie, the former two-time world badminton champion, gave birth to a baby on Nov. 4. Lin and Xie were seen by many as the golden couple of China's badminton world.

After the exposure, internet users were investigating the identity of the mysterious woman. It turned out to be model and actress Zhao Yaqi.
