It'll be the first Asian event under the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series umbrella in Chengdu, China.

Sports fans around the country were relieved to learn that the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, one of the world's most famed marathon events, will be held as scheduled in October in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province in southwest China.

Concern had spread rapidly among eager runners as the event's original sponsor, Competitor Group (CGI), was acquired by Ironman, the triathlon arm of China's Dalian Wanda Group, on June 2.

To introduce the event into China, the CGI had signed a five-year cooperation agreement in March with the organizer of the Chengdu WCH&WNH Marathon.

Liu Yang, the head of the Chengdu marathon's organizing committee, said the company had secured a cooperation deal with Ironman, and the upcoming event would be held as scheduled, according to the Chengdu-based newspaper West China Metropolis Daily.

The acquisition of CGI is expected to strengthen Wanda's position as global leader in endurance sports.

The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series innovated the staging of running events by introducing live bands, cheerleading teams, and creating a block-party atmosphere for participants and spectators along the course.
