Sensational Syria seal World Cup play-off spot.

Korea Republic and Saudi Arabia joined the Islamic Republic of Iran and Japan in sealing berths to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia while Syria and Australia will square off in the continental play-off as the Asian Qualifiers ended on Tuesday.

Korea Republic sealed a 10th appearance at the FIFA World Cup after playing to a scoreless draw with Uzbekistan in Tashkent.

It proved to be a costly result for Uzbekistan as Syria leapfrogged them into third place on superior goal difference after they held Iran 2-2 in their final Group A match in Tehran.

Saudi Arabia (pic above) had substitute Fahad Al Muwallad to thank as his strike in the 63rd minute gave them a 1-0 win over Group B winners Japan.

Saudi Arabia's win took them over Australia into second place on goal difference.

The Socceroos' 2018 World Cup hopes now rest on the play-off against Syria on October 5 and 10 with the winners facing a team from CONCACAF in the intercontinental play-off in November.
