The Rio 2016 Committee deeply apologized to China for raising flawed Chinese national flags.

It said the flags were made by non-Chinese third-party companies, and a correction order has been issued.

The Chinese Consulate-General in Rio de Janeiro earlier called on Olympic officials to correct a mistake on the Chinese national flags being used at award ceremonies.

The mistake was spotted by members of the Chinese delegation at an award ceremony during this year's Rio Olympics on August 7, who pointed out that the four little stars on the Chinese national flag were incorrectly angled.

China's national flag features a yellow large star and four smaller stars in an arc shape on the right side of the bigger one. The stars' points are at a 36-degree angle. However, the small stars on the flags on display at the Games were not rotated towards the center point of the larger star.
