Beijing Undeterred by Surprising Loss

League powerhouse Beijing has suffered an unexpected 3-0 loss to the team of Peking University in the 12th round of the China table tennis super league.

World number one Zhang Yining of Beijing was upset by lower-ranked Sun Jin 3-11, 11-7, 11-3 and 11-9.

Meanwhile, Asian champion Guo Yan lost both her singles and doubles clashes to hand the victory to the university team.

In other matches in the women's group, top-ranked Jiangsu won by a narrow 3-2 margin over Sichuan.

In the only men's competition played on Sunday, league leaders Bayi frustrated Jiangsu 3-1 to stay clear at the top of the standings.

World top player Wang Liqin powered two singles wins to lead Bayi to their tenth victory in the season.
