China's top double's players Zheng Jie and Yan Zi failed to reach the US Open semifinals, after a 2-0 loss to their European rivals.

The second-seeded Chinese were unable to hold their service, losing the match in straight sets 7-6, 6-4 to Italy's Francesca Schiavone and Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic.

Zheng and Yan were crowned the Australian Open title in January to become China's first grand slam winners.

The duo followed to make breakthrough in Chinese tennis as they won the double's trophy at the Wimbledon Championships in July.
