PSV Eindhoven squeezed past second-from-bottom ADO Den Haag 2-1 on Saturday to power 11 points clear in the Dutch top soccer league Eredivisie before winter break.

Veteran forward Patrick Kluivert beat visiting goalkeeper Robert Zwinkels from close range in the 33rd minute before Peruvian Jefferson Farfan curled in a free kick early in the second half to double PSV's lead.

Wesley Verhoek pulled one back for Den Haag with 12 minutes to go.

PSV have 53 points from 20 matches. Ajax, held to a 2-2 draw at NEC Nijmegen, are second on 42 points, two more than AZ Alkmaar who host Roda JC Kerkrade on Sunday.

Sparta Rotterdam brushed past 10-man Twente Enschede 3-0. Sjaak Polak converted a 24th-minute penalty before Rachid Bouaouzan added a second goal seven minutes later.

Otman Bakkal was sent off early in the second half and Ivan Cvetkov sealed the win for 13th-placed Sparta two minutes from time.

Twente are fifth on 38 points, one behind Feyenoord following their 3-1 derby win over Excelsior Rotterdam on Friday.

RKC Waalwijk remain bottom with 13 points after a 2-0 home defeat by Groningen. Koen van der Laak and Erik Nevland netted for Groningen. Hans Mulder of Waalwijk was dismissed midway through the first half.

The next full round of matches will be on Jan. 20-21 when the league resumes after a winter break.
