Badminton: Triple Victory for China at Asia Champs

The Yonex-Sunrise Badminton Asia Championships 2007 held in Johor Baru, Malaysia, closed on Sunday with China gaining three gold medals in all.

In the women's singles final, an all-China battle between Jiang Yanjiao and Lu Lan saw Jiang triumph in two straight sets 25-23 and 23-21.

China also took gold and silver in the women's doubles with Yang Wei and Zhao Tingting overcoming Cheng Shu and Zhao Yunlei in two easy games 21-10 and 21-11.

In the mixed doubles final, He Hanbin/Yu Yang completed a third Chinese combo by defeating Xu Chen/ Zhao Tingting 22-20, 21-15 to claim the gold.

China's biggest road bump came in the men's singles where Indonesia's Hidayat Taufik eliminated Chen Hong in two sets, 21-18 and 21-19.

The best of the day's play came in the men's doubles when Malaysian pair Lee Wan Wah/Choong Tan Fook defeated tournament favourites Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong by 21-14, 11-21, 21-12.
