Soccer: Charlton Loses as Zheng Falters
Adjust font size:

James McFadden buried Charlton with an injury time goal which sealed a 2-1 win for Everton in a dramatic Premier League clash on Sunday. China skipper Zheng Zhi played the whole 90 minutes for Charlton but can blame himself for failing to capitalize on an easy tap-in in the starting line-ups for five consecutive games played a full 90 minutes.

At the end of a spell of play that saw three goals in tem minutes, McFadden unleashed a piledriver from 20 yards to settle the tie.

Everton's win will likely seal their UEFA Cup spot by letting them climb into fifth but Charlton is now mired inside the relegation zone.

In-form Everton kept the game tight at Goodison Park but were only able to batter past a dogged Charlton defense in the 80th minute. Andy Johnson's initial shot was pushed away by a stellar Scott Carson but Joleon Lescott buried the rebound.

Charlton thanked the heavens after their 89th-minute Darren Bent equalizer but McFadden proved that fate can be a fickle mistress with his 92nd minute winner.
