French Judoka Payet Grabs Women's 63kg Gold
Adjust font size:

French judoka Emmanuelle Payet won the women's 63kg gold medal at the 24th Universiade on Tuesday.

Payet, gold medalist in last year's World University Judo Championships, triumphed over Chinese Taipei judoka Wang Chin-fang, bronze medalist of Busan Asiad with a yoko, while Wang only managed to get a koka.

Wang said the silver medal would make her walk out of the shadow of her father's death two years ago.

"I am now more confident to compete in the upcoming Beijing Olympics," said Wang, who has been fighting for the qualification to attend the Olympics.

Hilde Drexler of Austria and Russian judoka Marta Labazina shared the bronze.
