Li Ping of China pushed herself to the limit but failed to shatter two world records after she had taken the gold medal in the women's 53kg category at the world weightlifting championships in Chiang Mai on Thursday.

Li, world record of the jerk, tried to lifted 134kg, 8kg more than her previous lift in her last attempt to break the world record of the jerk and total, but failed.

The 19-year-old powerwoman had already won the gold medal in total after her first lift in the jerk. She hoisted 126kg in her next jerk to reach a total of 219kg.

The world record of the jerk was set by herself at 129kg in the Asian championships in April. And the world record of total was created by her compatriot Qiu Hongxia in the worlds in 2006.

Li was not good at snatching as she finished with the third place at 93kg before her superb show in the jerk.

Nastassia Novikava of Belarus, who was placed fifth in the Athens Olympics, hoisted the silver with 213kg and Yoon Jin-hee of South Korea the bronze with 211kg.
