Beckham to get new coach

World famous soccer star David Beckham will be getting a new coach, the Daily News reported on Monday.

Becham's coach Frank Yallop has resigned as coach of the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer (MLS) to take a similar position with the league's San Jose Earthquakes, according to the paper.

"We're disappointed we've lost him," Beckham told reporters after scoring two goals on Sunday in the Galaxy's 12-4 victory over Hollywood United in a charity exhibition in Carson near Los Angeles.

"We felt he's the right man. He's a good manager and strong character with the team. So it was disappointing to lose him at this stage," Beckham said.

Yallop, 43, told the Galaxy players after the game he was resigning but did not speak with reporters.

Meanwhile, Alexi Lalas, the Galaxy's president and general manager, told the Los Angeles Times that the team would have no comment on the matter until this afternoon.

Yallop coached the Galaxy to an 18-21-12 record in a season and a half, missing the playoffs both times, the only times it has missed the playoffs in its 12-season history.

Yallop coached an earlier version of the Earthquakes from 2001-2003, before becoming the coach of the Canadian men's national team. The Earthquakes moved to Houston following the 2005 season. A new Earthquakes team will begin play next season.

The Galaxy's fortunes were expected to rise with Beckham's mid-season arrival, but a series of injuries limited him to five games in MLS play in which the Galaxy went 0-4-1, as Beckham was held scoreless with two assists.

The Galaxy will begin a four-game, four-nation exhibition tour Wednesday in Vancouver, with assistant coach Trevor James or Paul Bravo, its director of soccer, expected to serve as coach.
