China beats Singapore to win women's table tennis

China on Wednesday beat Singapore 3-0 to win the women's team gold medal at the "Good Luck Beijing" International Table Tennis Invitational Tournament, a test event for the 2008 Olympics.

In the singles, Guo Yan eased past Feng Tianwei 11-6, 11-3, 11-8 and teenager Guo Yue, ranked third in the world, defeated Yu Mengyu 11-8, 11-6, 11-6.

In the doubles, Guo Yue paired with Li Xiaoxia, the singles winner of the ITTF ProTour Finals on Sunday, winning over Sun Beibei/Feng Tianwei 11-5, 11-7, 11-9.

China had defeated Hong Kong and Europe 3-0 in round robin Tuesday.

The "Good Luck Beijing" event is held to test the operation and facility of the Olympic table tennis venue which is on the campus of the prestigious Peking University.

The test event uses the Olympic format which includes singles and doubles in the team competition, unlike the world team championships that only features singles games.
