Chinese players shine at World Professional Go Championship

Chinese players shone at the seventh Chunlan Cup World Professional Go Championship, grabbing seven berths in the quarter-finals in Hangzhou on Monday.

Ding Wei, 9 dan, led the Chinese ride by upsetting South Korean Lee Sae-dol, the arguable current world No. 1 player. Gu Li, the top ranked Chinese player, crushed Won Sung-jin of South Korea and Zhou Heyang beat South Korean Mok Jin-seuk.

Chang Hao, Kong Jie, Xie He and Huang Yizhong also secured their berths in top eight with respective victories on Monday.

South Korean Lee Changho beat Chen Yaoye to prevent China from clean sweeping the top eight places.

Gu Li, the defending Chunlan Cup champion, will play Lee in the quarter-finals at the end of this year.
