Malaysia trounces S. Korea in Thomas Cup

Malaysia romped to a convincing 4-1 win over South Korea on the second day of the Thomas Cup men's badminton tournament at the Bung Karno Sports hall in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday.

In Group B, playing the first match, world No. 2 Chong Wei Lee beat South Korea's Seung Mo Shon 21-14, 21-14 while Choong Hann Wong crushed his South Korean opponent Ji Hoon Hong 21-14, 21-10.

In the men's doubles, South Korea's Jae Sung Jung and Jae Jin Lee demolished Malaysian Wan Wah Lee and Tan Fook Choong 20-22, 21-10, 21-16.

Malaysian third singles Hafiz Hashim Muhammad swept past Ji Man Hwang 21-5, 21-11. In the final men's doubles, Malaysia's Klen Keat Koo and Boon Heong Tan beat South Korea's Yong Dae Lee and Ji Hoon Hong 23-21, 21-19.

In the Thomas Cup Group C match Monday evening, Denmark beat Japan 3-2.

In the Uber Cup Group X game, South Korea defeated China's Hong Kong 5-0 while Indonesia crushed Netherlands 5-0.

Both China's men's and women's teams completed the victories Monday and topped the Group A and Group W respectively.
