Spain seeks third win on World Cup trail
Adjust font size:

Spain faces Estonia in Tallinn on Saturday as they seek to maintain their 100 percent start to their campaign to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals.

Coach Vicente del Bosque will be forced to make some changes to the team that began positively at home to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Armenia with 1-0 and 4-0 wins in September.

Right back Sergio Ramos is doubtful for the match with muscle problems and his place in the side will be taken by Andoni Iriola, who makes his first start for Spain.

With winger David Capel out with a torn groin muscle and Santi Cazorla also struggling, Del Bosque has spent the week experimenting with his midfield formation.

It seems likely that Marcos Senna will play in the holding role with either Xabi Alonso or Xavi Hernandez alongside him.

Should Alonso be chosen, then Hernandez would play in a more advanced role with Albert Riera or Andres Iniesta given the job of playing wide on the left.

There are no questions as to who will lead the Spanish attack, however, against one of the weaker sides in Europe. David Villa and Fernando Torres will be reunited after Torres missed the Armenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina matches with a hamstring injury.

Villa was in fine form in those two games, scoring twice and Torres said on Friday he was getting back into goalscoring best.

The striker netted twice for his club side Liverpool last Sunday after a six game run without scoring and now wants to do the same for his country.

"I hope it has been my worst run without scoring goals and I hope that it is not repeated," he told sports paper Marca.

Torres scored the goal that gave the Spanish their triumph in the European Championships this summer and said that he had developed a taste for winning silverware.

"Winning the European title was my first major trophy, now I know what it feels like, I want to win more trophies," he said.
