In October 2001, Bateer joined the Denver Nuggets in the side's preseason training camp. In the summer of 2002, Bateer was traded to the Detroit Pistons, and then he signed as a free agent with the Toronto Raptors. In October 2004, the New York Knicks signed Bateer as a training camp invite. In 2010, he played center for Xinjiang Guanghui and helped the team take second place this season in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).Mengke Bateer was born in 1975 in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia of China. At 6'11" and 309 lbs., Bateer is a strong center and an accomplished screen-setter and passer, but is severely hindered by his lack of speed.
