VW Golf (251,078 units)
The Golf is Volkswagen’s compact hatchback which is redesigned for 2010 and returns to the Golf name for the U.S. market. Always know as the Golf in other markets, the first generation Golf was sold in the U.S. as the Rabbit. The Golf name was adopted for the U.S. market as well with the debut of the second-generation Golf for the 1985 model year. Volkswagen brought back the Rabbit name in the U.S. for the 2007 model year.
This is essentially a hatchback version of the Jetta. The 2.5-liter, 170-hp, five-cylinder engine is responsive combined with well-suppressed body lean make the car feel agile in corners, similar to the sportier GTI's. The ride is supple and controlled. Curtain air bags and electronic stability control are standard. A diesel version is also available.
