Since 1983, the Aalborg Carnival has been celebrated annually in Demark. It started small but has now developed into the largest carnival in Northern Europe. Taking place during the last week in May (week 21), the carnival stands for a week and features all varieties of recreation activities and performance. The Grand Parade, Battle of Carnival Bands and Children's Carnival are three main carnival events.

The Grand Parade is the largest event during the carnival that attracts about 100,000 people each year. About 15 professional groups from all over the world open the parade, followed by thousands of dressed-up folks, dancing and celebrating life. Everyone who would like to act on his or her instincts and created their own costume is welcome to join the celebration. On this spectacular occasion, the whole city is transformed into a wonderful universe full of music, dance and magic. It is a festival for all.

One day before the Grand Parade, a lot of performance groups from all over the world travel to Aalborg to participate in the Battle of Carnival Bands, and to compete for the title of Best Carnival Group.

The children also have their own carnival. A week before the Grand Parade, several thousands of children of all ages dress up and march through the streets with their parents and even grandparents. All the streets are decorated to the style of children and the whole city becomes a magic world filled with experiences and thrills for the children.
