A native Shanghai girl, Ma Yili graduated from the Shanghai Academy for Dramatic Arts in 1998. She wasn't well known until her role as Princess Ziwei in the third season of the popular TV drama "Princess Pearl." In 2007, Ma played Xia Lin, a passionate, direct and optimistic young woman, in a highly popular TV series named "Struggle," which saw her become a superstar on the Chinese mainland. In 2008, she married Chinese actor Wen Zhang who is eight years her junior.
