Surrounded by Donghu Lake, Wuhan University is situated at picturesque Luojia Hill. It is considered to have one of the most beautiful campuses in the entire country. If you chat with their students, many will tell you that it is the beauty of the campus which attracted them to come here in the first place.

The history of the university can be traced back to 1893, during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), when Zhang Zhidong, governor of Hubei and Hunan Provinces, founded the Ziqiang Institute. It was renamed National Wuhan University in 1928.

The campus is a great place to walk around. It is large with magnificent buildings featuring a combination of both Chinese and Western styles and a variety of trees and flowers. Especially if you travel to the area between March and April, make sure to visit the university and enjoy the cherry blossoms on top of Luojia Hill.
