A recent report shows that Chinese tourists are now the biggest global spenders. Their total spending is expected to jump 23 percent to US$229 billion in 2015, and by 2020, it will nearly double to US$422 billion.

The report, "Global Chinese Shoppers: The $200 Billion Opportunity,” has been released jointly by FBIC Global Retail & Technology and China Luxury Advisors (CLA). It is based on a survey of 1,019 Chinese Internet users aged 18+, regarding their net monthly household income, number of international trips taken, destinations and retail purchasing behavior abroad for the year ending May 21,2015, combining these findings with economic and tourism growth projections.

The report indicates that one Chinese traveler spends around US$1,678 on retail purchases per trip. The farther they travel, the more they shop.

The most popular shopping categories are clothing, footwear and accessories (e.g., handbags) bought by 56 percent of travelers, fragrances and beauty products (52 percent) and electronics such as smartphone, tablet computer, etc. (32 percent).

With 12.9 percent of respondents visiting Hong Kong during the survey period, the city is the most popular destination for Chinese mainland travelers.

Outside Asia, United States, United Kingdom and other European countries are also hot destinations for Chinese travelers.

The following are the top 10 destinations worldwide of Chinese tourists.
