The 56-hectare Badaling National Forest Park is located near the Great Wall section of the same name. It contains more than 50,000 colorful trees including smoke trees and Shandong maples. The park is situated some 500 meters higher than downtown Beijing, which means that it is cooler in fall and the leaves here turn red sooner. The annual Red Leaves Festival is extremely popular with visitors looking to take in the resplendent fall foliage.

Best time for sightseeing: Late September to late October
