Northeast China's Heilongjiang woos winter vacationers

The Heilongjiang Provincial Culture and Tourism Office recently held a press conference to promote the province's signature winter tourism.

At the press conference, He Dawei, deputy director of the office, presented five winter itineraries, 10 themed festivities, and more than 100 ice and snow activities. 

By integrating culture, sports, and tourism, the northernmost province of China is keenly promoting itself as the top destination for ice and snow tourism in the country.

Five tourist routes across the province


The route in the north will take tourists to China's northernmost city Mohe. There, people can see the picturesque phenomenon of the northern lights, or "aurora borealis," and visit the Arctic Christmas Village, which is a synthesis of western Christmas culture and China's polar resources.

The central route will give tourists an opportunity to explore the province's popular getaways, such as Wudalianchi World Geopark, Yichun Forest Park, Taoshanyu Hot Spring, and Riyuexia Ski Resort.

 

The western route will lead tourists to the Zhalong National Nature Reserve, pamper them with Daqing Lianhuahu Hot Spring, and treat them to the famous  Qiqihar .

The western route, dubbed "the beautiful snow wonderland," will take tourists to Yabuli Ski Resort, the largest ski resort in China, as well as the Jingpo Lake Scenic Area.

The fifth route offers the best of Harbin, the provincial capital, where people can visit the famous Ice and Snow World, Sun Island Scenic Area, Rongchuang Snow World, and Harbin Polar Land."

Ten themed festivities


The 10 themed festivities include: China Heilongjiang International Skiing Festival, Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, Heilongjiang Winter Fishing Festival, Heilongjiang Ice and Snow Carnival, Heilongjiang Ice and Snow Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection, Qiqihar Crane Viewing Festival, Daqing Hot Spring Festival, Jiamusi Sanjiang Snow-sprinkling Festival, Lesser Khingan Mountains Gourmet Festival, and Xunke Rime Photography Contest.


As the first skiing festival in China, China Heilongjiang International Skiing Festival was started in 1998 and will resume this year. During the festival, a ski marathon as well as other ski-related sports activities will be launched for the first time.

Ice and snow sports


The first China Harbin Finlandia Ski Marathon has been approved by the International Ski Federation and will be launched at the Volga Manor Scenic Spot in Harbin on Jan. 7, 2020. There will be more than 3,000 participants from all over the globe, including 20 of the top 100 athletes in the world.

The second National Youth Ice and Snow Sports Tourism Development Summit will also be held. The forum is expected to integrate research and travel with ice and snow activities for the first time, and will include themed social activities for youngsters.

In the meantime, a weekend tour program will bring guests to the snow-covered villages at Weihushan, a popular sightseeing spot in Mudanjiang city.

On the radar

Starting from November, the Heilongjiang Provincial Culture and Tourism Office will hold promotional events in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou to attract tourists from the areas.

Furthermore, the province will continue to strengthen cooperation with media organizations across the country. Starting from Nov. 16, China Central Television will broadcast advertisement of winter tourism in Heilongjiang for three consecutive months. The Heilongjiang Provincial Culture and Tourism Office will cooperate with Chinese online travel company Ctrip.com to create an electronic map along with a voice guide system, which will help visitors to learn about the province's scenic spots on their phones.
