An insight report by China Tourism Academy released on May 19, found that among the 3 million tourists it surveyed over the past five years, Shanghai Disney Resort not only appeals to children but people of all ages. Nearly half of its total visitors were individuals in their 20s and 30s without children. The resort also promotes the local economy, employment, and tourism, as well as related industries, with the survey showing that more than two-thirds of Shanghai tourists answering that they came to the city only to visit Disneyland.

Andrew Bolstein, the resort's senior vice president of operations, shared some fun facts about Disneyland and showed off more amazing statistics. For example, over 33 million guests have experienced the Pirates of the Caribbean – Battle for the Sunken Treasure show; the Voyage to the Crystal Grotto boats have traveled over 139,000km; and that 90 million photos have been captured by the resort's photographers.

When Shanghai Disneyland reopened its gates on May 11 last year after COVID-19 was under control, it brought a much-needed boost to the area's tourism, as well as a sense of happiness and optimism to the world, with new operational policies and methods having been developed to help protect cast and guests.

Disneyland has more to offer in the future. Later this summer, the resort and its corporate alliance partners will work to deliver additional products and experiences. One such experience is the arrival of another beloved friend of Duffy who will make their world debut in Shanghai. However, the most anticipated event at the resort is the opening of its eighth themed land inspired by the Academy Award-winning film "Zootopia." The new portion will feature several Audio-Animatronics figures of the leading characters, which are being developed in Shanghai, marking the first time that Walt Disney Imagineering has built such complex figures outside of the United States.

"When Disneyland celebrated its 10th anniversary in 1965, Walt hosted a dinner and he gave a toast. And in that toast, he said 'It feels like Disneyland is only just getting started.' That's how I feel about Shanghai Disneyland after five years — that it is just getting started," said Bob Iger. "The land is large enough to continue to enable us to expand the park. I think that the growth potential that it represents is enormous, and we hope to bring even more new, rich experiences, and joy to the people of China."
