Silk Road International Cultural Expo kicks off in Dunhuang

Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

The Silk Road International Cultural Expo opened in Dunhuang, northwest China's Gansu Province on Tuesday.

The two-day event, sponsored by the People's Government of Gansu, the Ministry of Culture, the State Administration f Press, Publication, Radio, Film and TV, the National Tourism Administration and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, will be attended by delegations from 85 countries, five international organizations and 66 overseas institutions.

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the expo.

Vice Premier Liu Yandong delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

Wang Sanyun, Secretary General of CPC Gansu Committee, declares the expo open. 

Approved by the central government, the expo consists of summits, an annual cultural exhibition, component activities and cultural performances, all aimed to promote cultural communication, seek cooperation and mutural development.

The Guest of Honor of this year's event is France.
