| Performance at the opening ceremony of the week-long cultural show |
Chongqing, a municipality in southwest China, began a week-long cultural show yesterday at the World Expo by displaying its diverse art forms at the Baosteel Stage in Zone B.
The show offers a glimpse of Chongqing's rich cultural heritage through performances and exhibitions. The opening show featured folk music, dances and local opera.
The Chongqing Pavilion focuses on the harmonious co-existance between man and nature and the preservation of tradition during urban transformation.
Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng attended the opening ceremony and said the cultural week would strengthen the ties and cooperation between Shanghai and Chongqing, both big ports on the Yangtze River.
Huang Qifan, mayor of Chongqing, said Chongqing with a history of more than 3,000 years hoped to showcase its charms to the world through the Expo.
