The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which is participating in the World Expo for the first time, celebrates its National Pavilion day on Monday in Shanghai. The pavilion merges national characteristics of the DPRK together with its modern beauty.

The DPRK pavilion is decorated with national flags and a winged steed bronze statue on the outer walls. Covering one thousand square meters, the pavilion has exhibited major features of its capital city Pyongyang. A winding river flows across the pavilion, reminding people of the stretching Taedong River, the mother river and a cradle of culture for the DPRK.

A national section and stone caves are exhibited on the right side of the pavilion. Inside the cave, the world heritage of tomb murals in Jiangxi County and paintings of DPRK style are displayed.

Korean films are part of the collective memory of Chinese people born in the 1950s and 60s. Lines from "Flower Girl," and "Villages Where Flowers Bloom" are among the well-recited parts for many movie fans in China.
