The yearly China Culture Week was inaugurated here on Friday, in celebration of the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Pakistani Culture Minister Pir Aftab Shah Jilani said that the relations between Pakistan and China cover all spectrums including political, strategic, defense, cultural, economic and trade areas.

Pakistan and China have inked many cultural agreements on culture exchange in recent years, Jilani said.

He said Shanghai World Expo is a symbol of Chinese civilization, a window of China's development and a platform of culture exchange and mutual understanding as well.

The minister also took the occasion to thank China for its tremendous help in the flood relief in Pakistan.

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian told Xinhua that both China and Pakistan have a long and brilliant civilization and have a long history of cultural exchange.

He hoped that more such events could be held to help Pakistani people to understand Chinese culture and to promote mutual understanding between the two peoples.

The China Culture Week, jointly organized by the Pakistani Ministry of Culture and the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, is launched at the National Art Gallery of Pakistan National Council of the Arts.

Showcasing a photographic exhibition on Shanghai World Expo 2010 and a Chinese language textbook exhibition, the China Culture Week will also screen three Chinese movies.
