Colombia will take part in the Creative Economy Forum at the Shanghai World Expo on Oct. 21, its Culture Ministry said Wednesday.

The event, organized by the United Nations (U.N.) Development Program, aims to analyze alternative innovation in culture spread through the development of a creative economy.

Colombia will present its cultural policies and share different successful experiences in its cultural sector with other countries. In recent years, Colombia's cultural sector has grown significantly.

"The creative economy is an important engine for employment and innovation. It contributes to revitalizing economic growth and promoting social inclusion and cultural life in many cities of the world," the ministry's representative Maria Angela Holguin said in a statement.

Colombia will introduce youngsters of all countries to the Culture and Empowering Social Labs, which, based on an Internet cultural initiative, aims at producing cultural contents through new technologies.

The forum is part of the Global South-South Creative Week 2010, which features a series of events from Oct. 19 to 23 at the UN Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo. It aims at promoting innovative mechanisms for the South-South transfer of development experiences and solutions.
