A post office at Tian'anmen Square in downtown Beijing opened on Wednesday to provide services for both domestic and foreign tourists.

The China Post post office, on the southern end of the road on the east side of Tian'anmen Square, covers about 50 square meters. It is the first fixed post office at the square.

Temporary post offices have previously been set up at the square during festivals.

The office opens from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. It sells postcards and provides other mail services.

Song Pingjiao, director of the Beijing Dongqu Postal Bureau, said the post code of the office was 100060, to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
